I recently spotted this poem by Judith Viorst on a class’ bulletin boards in the hallway of my boys’ elementary school.
IMHO “Credit” could be subtitled “The ADDer’s Plead”.
I love the simplicity of this poem so much I had to order the collection it appears in – Sad Underwear and Other Complications: More Poems for Children and Their Parents.
“I hear tell the road to hell was paved with good intentions….” Some lyrics from a country song, maybe Allan Jackson? They have always stuck in my head for precisely this reason. I think we should get credit for the steps along the way, and the spirit in which we set out to accomplish a task…..Lynn (too many formative years in Texas I guess.)
The song you seek, Miss Lynn, is “Good Intentions” by Randy Travis. (Gotta love Goggle!)
